[ニューヨーク 9日 ロイター] – The Michigan Electoral Secretary of State, who should be the key to the 2024 US presidential election, was defeated by a Republican candidate who backed former President Donald Trump’s false claim that he had won the previous presidential election.

Democratic candidate Jocelyn Benson beat Republican Cristina Karamo, according to Edison Research predictions.

The Arizona and Nevada secretary of state elections are also contested by “election deniers,” who refuse to admit Trump’s defeat, but the results are unknown.

Civic groups and constitutional scholars fear the anti-electoral secretary of state will not recognize the results of the 2024 presidential election.

Electoral deniers are nominated for at least one of the offices that oversee elections in 30 of the 50 states – governor, secretary of state and state attorney general – according to the non-profit organization States United Action.

While many states are still counting the votes, the group said 12 deniers in eight states had taken over positions of control early Wednesday.

Electoral deniers have run for the post of Secretary of State in 13 states, with three elected so far, two unsuccessful and eight undecided.
