The Pentagon spokesman, Patrick Ryder, announced that “Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, is still in the hospital, and there is no specific date for his release yet.”
“Austin remains at Walter Reed Army Medical Center,” Rader said in a statement.
He added, “We do not currently have a specific date for his discharge from the hospital.”
Ryder explained, “Austin is recovering and in good spirits,” stressing that “the Pentagon will provide information at a later time about the minister’s health condition.”
It is noteworthy that Austin was transferred to the hospital this January, due to health complications after a routine medical procedure, while his diagnosis is still kept secret.
Earlier last Saturday, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that he “looks forward to returning to his duties at the Pentagon soon as he recovers after being transferred to the hospital due to the deterioration of his health condition.”
Austin said in a written statement, “I am very happy that I am improving, and I look forward to returning to the Pentagon soon.”
He added, “I also understand the media’s concerns about transparency, and recognize that I could have done a better job of ensuring the public was properly informed.”
He concluded, “I am committed to doing better, but it is important to say that this was my medical procedure, and I take full responsibility for my decisions regarding disclosure.”
