Minister of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister) United States of America (AS), Antony Blinksay that Russia amassed more of its troops near the Ukrainian border. Blinken also warned again that the Russian invasion of Ukraine can happen ‘anytime’ including during the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
Blinken’s latest warning dispels suggestions that Russia will wait until Winter Olympics in Beijing which expires on February 20, to avoid taking the spotlight on China, its ally. So as reported AFPFriday (11/2/2022).
“We are in a time window where an invasion could start at any time, and to be clear, that includes the Olympics,” Blinken said in his latest statement.
“Simply put, we continue to see very troubling signs of Russian escalation,” he added, after attending a meeting of the Quad nations in Melbourne, Australia. The Quad countries are known to consist of Australia, India, Japan and the US.
Furthermore, Blinken insisted that the US ‘would very much prefer to resolve differences’ with Russia ‘through diplomacy’.
“We have made every possible effort to involve Russia,” he said.
“But at the same time, we have been very clear on building deterrence and building defenses and made clear to Russia that if it chooses a new path of aggression, it will face grave consequences,” Blinken said in a statement.
