The US sanctions hit two Russian companies, Russian and North Korean individuals and a North Korean institution. It is not clear what exactly they are accused of and how Russia was involved in the missile test.
According to the US State Department, the sanctions “highlight the negative role that Russia is playing on the world stage with regard to these types of worrying programs.”

North Korea is banned from launching ballistic missiles under UN Security Council resolutions, but continues to develop them. The country has already tested more than ten of these missiles this year.
Previous launches have resulted in tough international sanctions against North Korea. The fact that the world is currently divided over the war in Ukraine makes it difficult for the United Nations to act together.
UN diplomats from the US, Great Britain, France and Ireland, among others, want the UN Security Council to meet on Friday to discuss the missile launch, according to Reuters news agency.
