US: Sanctions on Russian Cryptocurrency Company – 2024-09-29 11:00:28

The United States has imposed sanctions on Russian Sergey Ivanov and cryptocurrency firm Cryptex based in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines but operating in Russia, the US Treasury Department announced today.

The Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network suspects Russian cryptocurrency exchange PM2BTC of “money laundering” in connection with Russian illicit financing.

“The United States and our partners internationally remain unwavering in our commitment to prevent cybercrime facilitators such as PM2BTC and Cryptex from operating with impunity,” said Bradley Smith, Acting Under Secretary for Cybercrime’s Response Unit. terrorism and financial intelligence of the Ministry of Finance.

The State Department also today announced rewards of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Ivanov and Timur Shakhmametov for involvement in transnational organized crime.

The State Department is also offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the identification of the leaders of PM2BTC and the stolen credit card purchases of PinPays and Joker’s Stash.
