US Records More Than 1,000 Deaths For Fourth Consecutive Day And Florida Beats New York In Number Of Cases | Univision Health News

Despite precautionary measures imposed on nursing homes in Florida, including banning family visits and isolating residents, in the past three weeks, cases of coronavirus in Florida nursing homes have increased 2,000 to 4,800, with 2,550 deaths among residents and staff, 45% of all covid-19 deaths in the state, the AP reported.

Deaths in nursing homes occurred at an average of 40 per day last week, compared to less than 20 a day in mid-June.

About 180 out of 10,000 long-term care residents have died in Florida, a much lower rate than in some northeastern states during the pandemic’s peak in March and April. New York then recorded 400 for every 10,000 and New Jersey more than 1,100.

As for the federal aid received by these residences, the government sent 14 million face masks and 13 million gowns to nursing homes, but some Florida providers said they were unusable. Others did not even receive them.
