US receiver Gladney strengthens the offense of the Dresden Monarchs

Dresden. On Monday, the reigning German American Football champions informed about the next new signing for the upcoming season in the German Football League (GFL). The receiver William Gladney should strengthen the offense of the “Royal” and for the newly committed quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels one of the main passing stations on the title defense mission.

Gladney was “an impressive sight”, as the Monarchs announced: 1.91 meters tall and 97 kilograms. But the American has much more to offer than size, mass and sheer power. His catch, speed and general athleticism make him an absolute nightmare for opposing cornerbacks and pass defenders. “We were looking for a receiver that could pose real challenges to its direct opponents. William is fast, incredibly agile and, despite his size and bulk, feels very comfortable even on deep pass routes. Thanks to his size, he can be played in regions that cause problems for many cornerbacks and safety players – mostly smaller players,” explains Monarchs head coach Ulrich “Ulz” Däuber.

Just as impressive as his body measurements are Gladney’s career stats to date. Born in Binghamton/New York, the 24-year-old caught 258 passes for 3,574 yards in a total of 40 games in four years for Ithaca College (Div. III). He got 38 touchdowns. He holds the record for most passes caught, most yards and most touchdowns at his college, where he earned a degree in public and community health. His last collegiate season was also the most successful by an Ithaca College receiver ever – with 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns.
