WASHINGTON Russia reacted to reports that mentioned United States of America (USA) plans to send long-range missile systems to Ukraine . A top Russian diplomat has called for the unreasonable and highly risky arms shipments to the country to be stopped.

On Friday, news outlets reported that the Biden administration is expected to ship multiple Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) systems to the Eastern European country. Ukrainian officials have requested weapons to strike Russia at greater distances and threaten Russian logistics hubs and routes to slow their offensive in the Donbas region.

In a Telegram post, Russia’s Ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, said the Biden administration could provide the Kyiv HIMARS MLRS and M270 MLRS, which would be equipped with M31 GMLRS missiles.

“There is a risk that the equipment will be placed near the Russian border and Ukraine will be able to attack Russian cities. Such a situation is unacceptable and intolerable for us,” he said, according to Ukrainian media outlet Ukrayinska Pravda. NewsweekSunday (29/5/2022).

Antonov said that Russia hoped common sense would prevail, and Washington would not take such a provocative step.

“We call for an end to the senseless and very risky pumping of weapons into the country. It is important to refrain from threats against us and claims of military victory for Ukraine,” the Russian ambassador said, according to Ukrayinksa Pravda.

Meanwhile, a news anchor on the Kremlin’s propaganda TV channel recently warned that the US would face a “strong response” if it supplied Ukraine with long-range rocket systems.

In an interview this week, Oleksandr Merezhko, chairman of the Ukrainian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, told Newsweek that Russia is now using artillery extensively and ruthlessly.
