Washington: The United States has again given weapons to Israel, which continues to persecute the Palestinian people. President Joe Biden’s administration decided to provide weapons immediately without discussion in the United States Congress, the legislative assembly. This is the second time in a month that Israel has been given lethal weapons.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told Congress that he had made the second emergency decision in less than a month. The State Department announced Friday that the equipment was sold to Israel for $147.5 million.
Anthony Blinken told Congress that he was making the decision to use his special authority to transfer weapons in response to Israel’s urgent need.
The United States is committed to Israel’s security. “It is imperative to the US national interest to ensure that Israel can defend itself against threats,” Blinken said.
The U.S. transfer also included related items, including fuses, charges and primers needed to operate the 155 mm shells previously purchased by Israel.
Blinken made a similar decision on December 9 to supply Israel with 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition worth more than $106 million. It is rare in America to make a decision like this without discussion in Congress.
While protests are rising around the world, it has been accused that the United States is once again arming Israel to help intensify the attack. Israel has reportedly purchased 155mm M107 projectiles, artillery shells that can cause widespread destruction in populated areas such as Gaza. Meanwhile, Hamas accused the US of funding Israel’s genocidal war.
It is estimated that 21,057 people have been killed and 55,915 injured in Gaza since October 7. 1139 people were killed in Israel in the attack by Hamas.
