“We won this election, and we won it by a large margin”, he insisted, against all evidence and despite the lack of evidence supporting the hypothesis of electoral fraud.
Pressure on Mike Pence
On several occasions, the outgoing president put pressure on his vice president. Thus, Donald Trump called on Mike Pence not to ratify in Congress the victory of Joe Biden during an extraordinary session in Congress scheduled for Wednesday evening. The vice president must chair this meeting intended to formally record the vote of 306 voters in favor of Joe Biden against 232 for Donald Trump.
But, according to the Constitution, its role is to “open” the certificates sent by each of the 50 states to transmit the votes of their grand voters. Only elected officials can challenge the results in some states.
“If Mike Pence does the right thing, we will win the election”, he said. “If he doesn’t, it will be a sad day for our country”, he added, suggesting that he doubted the attitude of his number two.
The outgoing president also lambasted certain elected Republicans by calling them “Weak” and “Pathetic”. However, he is counting on the support of dozens of other Republican parliamentarians who have promised to voice their objections on Wednesday, and to resonate the allegations of fraud within the Capitol itself.
Thousands of supporters surrendered to Washington
During the day, thousands of Donald Trump supporters converged on central Washington for a show of force as Congress must certify its presidential defeat. The outgoing president, who continues to deny the victory of his Democratic rival Joe Biden, has been encouraging its supporters for days to parade in the capital for this day which will be “crazy”, he warned.
