NEW YORK | Polling stations opened Tuesday in New York at 6 a.m. (New York time) for the U.S. presidential ballot, as well as some in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine and Virginia.

By midnight (New Hampshire time), the office in the small village of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, had already opened, as tradition dictates.
Even before polling day, nearly 100 million voters had already voted in advance, a record, either in person or by mail.
