Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A number of riots were reported after a vote in the presidential election United States (US). Riots were reported in several states in Uncle Sam’s country after a peaceful demonstration that occurred as a result of the vote count controversy.
In New York, as reported by ABC7 News, the police have arrested 50 people suspected of being the perpetrators of the riot. The rioting came after the stronghold of supporters of the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who hoped the count was continued, demonstrated in front of the office of the incumbent Donald Trump’s winning team on Washington Park Avenue.
The demonstration was initially peaceful, but after an hour of the demonstration ended, there were reports of riots occurring on Leroy Street and 7th Avenue in Greenwich Village New York. Apart from arresting the 50 perpetrators, several sharp weapons and fireworks were also secured. Currently the police are preparing new ways to deal with demonstrators peacefully.
Meanwhile in Portland, Oregon, riots were also reported. Quoted from AFP, the mob started to get violent after the peaceful demonstration threw stones, glass bottles and molotov at the police.
So far the police have secured 10 people along with evidence of sharp weapons and Molotov. Oregon Governor Kate Brown has deployed the National Guard to deal with the unrest that it feels could spread across the state.
Apart from New York and Portland, riots were also reported in Missouri, Denver, Detroit to Los Angeles. Demonstrators were in conflict over the controversy over whether vote counting should continue or not. The Pro Trump camp asked for the count to be stopped, while Biden supporters felt that every vote was meaningful, so the count had to be continued
Trump’s Winning Team recently decided to take the issue of counting votes in Pennsylvania and Michigan to the Realm of Law. If this lawsuit is followed up, then the US election results have the potential to come out in the long term.
