KYIVUnited States of America (US) announced last week that it would expedite the delivery of cluster munitions to Ukraine. However, it previously characterized the use of such weapons as a “war crime,” and vowed to remove them from US inventories.

The fallout from the Biden administration’s approval of the transfer of M864 Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munition (DPICM) cluster bombs to Ukraine continues to spread, with US allies, dozens of human rights and anti-war groups, and the United Nations condemning the decision. Moscow warned that this would result in a further escalation of the conflict.

Here are 6 US President Joe Biden lies regarding military aid to Ukraine.

Launch Sputnik Globethe US military had previously pledged to delist its M864s, and stop using them in 2016, citing their high unusability rate (which can reach up to 20%).

This particular weapon is reportedly more than 20 years old, further reducing its immediate suitability as a weapon but increasing its lethality to civilians and the environment in the long term.

In February 2022, Biden’s then press secretary, Jen Psaki, characterized Russia’s possible use of cluster munitions in Ukraine as “potentially… a war crime.” Apparently when the shoe is on the other foot that’s not the case anymore.
