US President Joe Biden said – today, Thursday – that the head of the Wagner security company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, should be careful of the possibility of his poisoning, after the failed insurrection he led last month against the Russian Defense Ministry.
Biden added – at a press conference in the Finnish capital, Helsinki – that “only God knows what he can do. We are not even sure where he is and who he communicates with. If I were him, I would have taken care of what I eat.”
The US President’s statement came in response to a question about whether the Wagner leader’s rebellion attempt might raise new concerns about Putin taking new radical measures regarding Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Biden said he did not know Prigozhin’s whereabouts or the nature of his current relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and jokingly advised US President Prigozhin to remain on high alert for possible poisoning.
And Biden continued, “But let’s leave joking aside, who knows .. I do not know .. and I do not think that anyone knows – for sure – what will be the future of Prigozhin in Russia.”
The Kremlin said 3 days ago that President Putin met on June 29, the head of the Wagner company and the rest of its leaders, 5 days after the failure of their armed rebellion, which ended with mediation from Belarus.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated – in press statements in Moscow – that during the meeting, Putin gave his assessment of Wagner’s participation in the Russian war on Ukraine, and the events of the rebellion that took place on June 24, and the Russian president also listened to Wagner’s leaders who affirmed their support for Putin and ” continue their fight” for Russia, Peskov said.
