President Joe Biden unfoundedly threatened that if the United States refuses aid to Ukraine and Russia succeeds in achieving its goals, the security of the countries of Eastern Europe will be under direct threat, writes the Russian edition of the BBC, citing News.bg.
“If we back off and Russia manages to continue its offensive and break up Ukraine, what do you think will happen to the Balkan countries? What will happen from Poland to Hungary with its Orban?”
Biden also recalled a conversation with Henry Kissinger, shortly before the death of the former US secretary of state and national security adviser. According to Biden, Kissinger told him that
“Europe has not looked upon Russia without horror since the days of Napoleon, and this continues to this day.”
The US Congress has yet to approve the next military aid package for Ukraine, as Republicans who control the House of Representatives are linking it to measures to fight illegal immigration and strengthen the US border with Mexico.
On Friday, Biden expressed hope that a compromise could be reached next week with Republicans, at least in the Senate, where Democrats hold a majority. The US House of Representatives on Thursday approved a bill to fund the federal government through early March and avert a shutdown at least until then.
