DECRYPTION – The White House notes with bitterness that the Hamas assault is not only an Israeli bankruptcy.
Joe Biden spoke Tuesday afternoon at the White House to reiterate the United States’ unwavering support for Israel, both military and diplomatic. Frozen with fear, the American president cannot back down from this new international crisis which, like the stalemate in Afghanistan and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, seems to distract him from his absolute priority, the standoff with the China. The tragedy in the Levant touches the heart of American interests: as he confirmed on Monday, eleven American nationals were killed in the fighting and several others are “probably” Hamas hostages in Gaza tunnels, as well as an unknown number of missing people.
