US President Joe Biden revealed that it was a “difficult decision” regarding the decision to support Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, with cluster munitions, a lethal weapon.
In an interview with CNN on the 7th (local time), President Biden explained that this support decision was “consulted with the alliance and Congress.”
“Ukraine is suffering from ammunition shortages,” he said, adding that cluster munition support would only be provided during a transitional period until the United States produced enough ammunition for its 155mm howitzer.
Cluster bombs, which explode multiple small shells from a single bomb, are weapons that most countries have promised not to use due to their high potential to kill civilians.
Regarding Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), he made a statement to the effect that it was not the right time.
President Biden said, “I don’t think all opinions are the same in NATO over whether or not Ukraine, which is at war, joins NATO.”
