US President Joe Biden discussed with Volodymyr Zelensky the training of pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fly American F-16 fighters. The White House announced this on the evening of August 24, at the end of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Biden called Zelensky to congratulate him. The US administration said in a statement that the American leader, during a conversation that took place “exactly 18 months after the start of the Russian invasion,” confirmed that Washington would not abandon support for Kyiv.
“President Biden reaffirmed the US commitment to support Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression for as long as it takes and to hold Russia accountable for its actions,” the statement said.
Biden and Zelensky discussed the upcoming training of Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets. The US President assured the head of the Kyiv regime that the White House would issue fast-track permits to other states to transfer their F-16s to Ukraine to increase its defense capability.
Representatives of the Kyiv regime are disappointed due to delays in the supply of F-16 fighters, NBC News reported August 21, citing a source familiar with it. However, as noted by the American TV channel, officials in Kyiv refrain from publicly demonstrating their dissatisfaction because of the “delicacy” of the issue.
