China and the United States have exchanged congratulations on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. China’s president says he wants a stable relationship with the United States.

President Xi Jinping promises to improve communication with Washington to prevent competition between the two countries from developing into conflict.

Xi says he is willing to work with the United States to promote a stable bilateral relationship.

– Both parties should take practical steps to promote stable, healthy and sustainable development in relations between China and the US, says Xi.

Xi last met US President Joe Biden in San Francisco in November.

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger played a central role in establishing diplomatic ties between Beijing and Washington in his time.

China’s ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, pointed that out after Kissinger died on November 29, aged 100.

– History will remember what the centenarian has contributed to the relationship between China and the United States, said Ambassador Xie.
