Moscow. December 23. INTERFAX.RU – US President Joe Biden signed the defense budget for the 2024 fiscal year, reported The White house.

The document involves the allocation of $886.3 billion for specialized programs of the ministries of defense and energy, the US State Department and intelligence services. This is $28 billion more than last year.

The budget includes assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $800 million. At the same time, it is planned to tighten control over the use of funds allocated to Kyiv.

The law introduces a ban on concluding contacts through the Pentagon with the energy sector of the Russian Federation, providing Moscow with information within the framework of the Treaty on the Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START), unless the Ministry of Defense and the State Department confirm that such information comes from the Russian side.

The budget also provides for the allocation of $14.7 billion to address issues related to the policy of “containing China,” in particular, accelerating arms supplies to Taiwan, training its military personnel, and increasing the scale and frequency of military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region.

The US Senate approved the draft defense budget on December 13.

On December 12, US President Joe Biden, during a meeting with the head of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, announced that the United States would send $200 million in separate military assistance to Ukraine. The package will include air defense ammunition, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery missile systems, high-speed anti-radar missiles, a range of weapons, HESCO barriers and spare parts, support equipment.
