US President Joe Biden has left for Europe on Wednesday, his first foreign visit since taking office. During the visit, meetings with G7 leaders, NATO and European Union allies, as well as with Russian President Vladimir Putin are planned.
This week, Biden will attend the G7 leaders ‘meeting in Britain, and on Monday he will visit Brussels to attend the NATO leaders’ meeting. In turn, next Wednesday in the Swiss city of Geneva he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
I’m on my way to the U.K. and Europe today for the first foreign trip of my presidency. I know that democracies can rally together to meet the challenges of this new age – this week, in Europe, we have the chance to prove that.

As Biden said before leaving for Europe, one of the aims of this tour is to send a clear message to China and Russia that the ties between the United States and Europe are still very close.
This is particularly significant after the four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, during which many began to question the future of transatlantic relations.

On the eve of the visit, the Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis also called on the President of the United States to act decisively to overcome various trade conflicts.
Commentators have already pointed out that Baiden’s visit is very symbolic, as he will have spoken to all his closest allies before meeting with Putin. This means that talks with Putin will no longer be just between Russia and the United States, but between Russia and a much wider bloc of democracies.
At the beginning of the visit to Great Britain, Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are scheduled to meet with US soldiers in England. On Thursday, he will meet with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and on Sunday, Biden will be received by Queen Elizabeth II across Windsor Castle.
