US President Biden held his first summit meeting with the leaders of five Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
This is a measure to keep in check both Russia, which has caused instability by invading Ukraine, and China, which is weaponizing minerals.

This is the first time in history that the president of the United States and the presidents of these countries have held a summit meeting.

President Biden emphasized cooperation among Central Asian countries, known as Russia’s backyard, in recognition of the rapidly growing anxiety caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In addition, it was proposed to establish a new dialogue body to develop Central Asia’s vast mineral resources and promote key mineral security.

While China has been controlling exports of gallium and germanium, which are needed for the production of electronic products such as semiconductors, since August, the United States is said to be seeking to secure additional key minerals.
The White House announced that President Xi Jinping will hold a summit meeting in person and that the five Central Asian countries, which are increasing economic dependence through large amounts of loans and investments, and the United States will hold a ministerial meeting next month and take follow-up measures.
