US Post Office Must Deliver Backward Judges | Abroad

“The pressing question is, where are the votes and how do we get them delivered so that they can be counted?”

Many states count postal votes arriving up to a week after election day, as long as they are postmarked on election day. Votes are still counted in the crucial swing states. The USPS reported on Wednesday that it had completed the court-ordered check on leftover letter ballots, yielding only 13 ballots, all in Pennsylvania.

Judge Sullivan had ordered review of the verdict in a lawsuit filed by civil rights organizations including Vote Forward, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and leaders of the Hispanic communities. The USPS had stated that it could not meet the deadline set by the judge because the work processes of the postal company would be disturbed too much.

“The court has been very clear and demands full compliance with the court order,” said Sullivan. “I was shocked to learn that nothing was done after the judgment was passed.” The injunction included USPS sorting centers in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas, among others.
