Minneapolis –
Police United States of America (USA) shot dead a black man on the street Minneapolis after stopping his vehicle due to a traffic violation. Shooting this sparked protests from local residents who went berserk over the police action.
As reported Reuters, Monday (12/4/2021), the location of the fatal shooting on Sunday (11/4) local time occurred at a location 16 kilometers from the location of the death of a black man named George Floyd whose neck was crushed by the knee of a policeman in an arrest last May.
Hundreds of angry people staged a protest outside the Brooklyn Center Police Department building in Minneapolis on Sunday (11/4) evening local time. Police in riot gear fired rubber bullets and threw light grenades at demonstrators.
The black man who was shot dead by police was identified as Daunte Wright (20).
Wright’s mother, Katie, told reporters at the location that she received a call from her son on Sunday (11/4) afternoon local time, about the police stopping her son’s vehicle for putting car freshener on the rearview mirror in his car. The practice is illegal in the state of Minnesota.
Katie said she could hear the sound of the police telling her son to get out of the car. “I heard noise, and I heard the police say, ‘Duante, don’t run,'” he said.
After that the phone call was cut off and when she dialed her son’s number back, the lover who answered the phone told her that Duante had died.
