US plans discussion with Netherlands on exporting ASML chip machines to China – Computers – News

According to the UN itself, the United States is not just one of 241 countries (the UN has 193 members, by the way). The five permanent members of the Security Council have special status, including veto. Therefore, sanctions against such a member because a peaceful person invades another country or systematically violates human rights (see report on China by the UN Commission for Human Rights) will therefore be never be adopted by the UN.

143 member states out of a total of 193 UN member states voted in favor of a resolution condemning the annexation of Ukrainian territory to Russia. Only 5 members voted against. Result: no sanctions, because Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council.

In a report, the UN Human Rights Commission itself found serious violations of the human rights of Muslims in Xinjiang province, which likely also included crimes against humanity (including forced sterilization). Result: nothing, because China is a permanent member of the Security Council.

I agree that no country should be able to impose its will on other countries. That is why I hope that preferably all democratic countries will unite against rogue states like Russia and China. So it shouldn’t be the US that imposes sanctions, but the US along with all EU member states and all other like-minded countries like Canada, Australia and so on.

But I can imagine that it is difficult for small countries like the Netherlands to withstand the enormous economic pressure from China. A country that is even bold enough to run illegal police stations in the Netherlands to observe and pressure their compatriots living here.
