The Pentagon announced that components of the advanced THAAD missile defense system began arriving in Israel yesterday and that the system will soon be in full operational readiness.
“Over the next few days, additional US military personnel and THAAD array components will continue to arrive in Israel,” said US Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder.
“The array will be in full operational readiness shortly, but for security reasons we are not going to divulge timelines.”
US President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that US forces will deploy a THAAD array to Israel to protect the Jewish state against a possible new attack from Tehran, pending an Israeli response to Iranian attacks.
A THAAD array was already deployed in Israel after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and previously in 2019, the Pentagon said.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin clarified that US military personnel will operate the anti-missile system.
