US-Owned Oil Tanker Smuggling Iranian Oil Unloads off Texas Coast Despite Tehran’s Threats: AP Report

Despite threats from Tehran, a US-owned oil tanker suspected of smuggling Iranian oil began unloading off the coast of Texas the day before. It is reported by the Associated Press.

Vessel tracking data analyzed by AP showed a Marshall Islands-flagged Suez Rajan transferring its oil from a tanker to another tanker, the MR Euphrate, about 70 kilometers southeast of Houston.

The fate of the cargo aboard the Suez Rajan is mired in U.S.-Islamic Republic tensions even as Tehran and Washington work to allow Iranian authorities access to billions of dollars of frozen Iranian assets in South Korea in exchange for the release of five Iranian-Americans held in Tehran , the agency notes.

The Iranian IRGC has already warned that those involved in the unloading of the ship “should expect a retaliatory strike.”
