The decision for the women is about to be made at the US Open: On Saturday evening (10 p.m. CET) Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula will duel for the crown of New York.

Sabalenka goes into the final as the favorite. The 26-year-old is ranked second in the WTA rankings and recently beat local hero Emma Navarro in the semifinals in two sets (6:3, 7:6).

US Open: Pegula wants first Grand Slam title
But Pegula – currently number six in the world – will not be an easy opponent. The American defeated Karolina Muchova in the semifinals 1:6, 6:4 and 6:2 after being far behind (1:6, 0:2).

The 30-year-old is the daughter of US entrepreneur Terrence Pegula, who owns both the NFL team Buffalo Bills and the NHL team Buffalo Sabre. The 73-year-old recently cheered on his daughter from the stands.
Pegula is still without a Grand Slam title and has never made it past the quarterfinals. She was last seen in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon (2023). Now she is hoping to win the title after her compatriot Gauff triumphed last year.
