Next win for Zverev?
After winning the German duel against his Olympic roommate Maximilian Marterer (29), Alexander Zverev (27) now meets in the second round of the US Open 2024 on the Frenchman Alexandre Muller (27). Here’s how to watch the duel live on TV.
Zverev was actually supposed to play against the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (25) in the opening match. After the 25-year-old withdrew from the tournament due to illness, Maximilian Marterer moved into the main draw as a lucky loser.

Zverev won a tough match against Marterer 6:2, 6:7 (5:7), 6:3, 6:2. After 2 hours and 53 minutes, the Hamburg native converted his first match point. At the Olympic Games in Paris, the two had shared a double room in the Olympic Village.

Zverev after the match: “It wasn’t easy, he knows me and he was my roommate at the Olympics. It was just my usual first round. I trained and played extremely well in the training week before. It’s different on the court. I know that I can play good tennis and hope that I can still show that.”
Now he’s playing against Frenchman Alexandre Muller in the second round on Wednesday. Germany’s best tennis player is the favorite again. Muller is number 77 in the world. The exact time will not be confirmed until Tuesday afternoon. Muller won his opening match against Australian Adam Walton (25) 3:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:3, 6:4.
