Navarro is going like a storm
The American started the match against Badosa, seeded 26th, brilliantly – she quickly broke her opponent and took a 3:0 lead. In the seventh game, she defended two break points, then broke the Spaniard again, winning 6:2.
Badosa greeted the third set. She left the court in tears
The beginning of the second set was a mirror image of the first, as the lower-ranked player was the first to record a break, a moment later she added a second one and was already leading 5:1. She had everything in her hands to lead to the third set, but she completely fell apart, which the American took advantage of, winning the next six games and the entire set 7:5.
In the latest world rankings, Navarro will debut in the top “10”. He will advance from 12th to at least eighth place.
The American tennis player will face the winner of Tuesday’s second quarterfinal – the clash between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and Chinese Qinwen Zheng – in the grand finale.
Quarterfinal result:
Emma Navarro (USA, 13) – Paula Badosa (Spain, 26) 6:2, 7:5
