US Open 2024 finalist Jannik Sinner is just one win away from equalling the unique record set by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner is just one step away from joining the elite list of players who have won the Australian and US Open in the same season. Sinner is currently competing in the 2024 US Open, where he secured his first ever place in the final with a 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Britain’s Jack Draper. With this result, the Italian tennis star is just one positive result away from joining that list.

The only two players to have achieved this before were legendary tennis stars Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Federer achieved this feat three times, in 2004, 2006 and 2007, and Djokovic also achieved it three times, in 2011, 2015 and 2023.

Sinner won the Australian Open earlier this year after defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final. He will now face American Taylor Fritz in the tournament’s final on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who is the first American player to reach the US Open final in 18 years, defeated fellow countryman Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals in a five-set match 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
