Burns and US National Intelligence Director Avril Haynes shared their concerns in this regard on Monday in Congress during the annual global threat review.
Further delays in US aid to Ukraine will lead to further territorial losses, but the consequences will be felt in Europe and the Pacific region, officials said.
“If it is seen that we are withdrawing our support for Ukraine, it will not only sow doubts among our allies in the Indo-Pacific region, but also increase the ambitions of the Chinese leadership in a wide variety of situations,” Burns warned.
Haynes, in turn, pointed to the “steady increase in munitions production in Russia,” as well as the purchase of munitions in North Korea and Iran.
In this context, it will be difficult for Ukraine to maintain the “hard-earned success” in the fight with the Russian army.
“Without additional help, we will see several more Avdijivkas. And that, I think, is going to be a huge and historic mistake for the United States,” Burns said.

With additional help, Ukraine will be able to maintain its positions at the front until the beginning of 2025, the director of the CIA stated.
“Ukraine will be able to continue to inflict damage on Russia by striking not only Crimea, but also the Black Sea Fleet,” Burns said.
At the beginning of February, the Bloomberg agency wrote about the concerns of the Ukrainian leadership that the attack of the Russian army in the summer may gain some momentum if Kyiv’s allies are not able to significantly increase ammunition supplies.
According to the publication’s sources, Ukrainian officials see the risks that the Russian army could breach Ukrainian defenses.
