Washington is concerned about Turkey’s non-adherence to restrictive measures against the Russian Federation.
In the coming days, Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury Brian Nelson, who is responsible for counter-terrorism and financial intelligence at the department, will visit Turkey to raise the topic of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Washington is unhappy with Ankara’s non-jointness to restrictive measures against the Kremlin. Turkey still receives Russian ships and aircraft, provides them with services, and also services Russian Mir bank cards.
This will be Nelson’s second visit to Turkey since the beginning of the year. According to Bloombergduring the visit, the official will convince Turkish high-ranking officials to comply with US sanctions against companies from the Russian Federation.
In addition, Nelson will demand that the Turkish side comply with American sanctions against Hamas.
The US Treasury Secretary’s visit to Turkey will take place next week. As part of this tour, he will also visit the capital of Oman, Muscat.
Let us recall that in August the American media wrote that Turkish companies were creating “ghost fleet”, helping Russia circumvent oil sanctions. According to journalists, US authorities warned these companies about the threat of restrictive measures being introduced against them.
Meanwhile, in November the media reported that Türkiye will limit export to Russia of goods that can be used for war. Ankara is ready to take such a step under pressure from the EU and the G7 countries, journalists noted.
