US Offers $ 10 Million to Alert About Foreigner Looking to Interfere in Elections

Mike Pompeo announced Wednesday a reward of up to $ 10 million for information leading to the arrest of any foreigner seeking to interfere in the American electoral process.

“The State Department is offering a reward of up to $ 10 million for information that leads to the identification and location of anyone acting under the direction or control of a foreign government that interferes with elections by engaging in cybercrime activities,” Pompeo said at a press conference.

The Foreign Minister did not detail whether Washington has evidence of the interference of any specific country; But previously, the Donald Trump Administration has accused China of trying to interfere in the American electoral process through cyber attacks.

Furthermore, the US intelligence community maintains that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, in which Trump defeated then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

On Wednesday, the State Department released a report on the Kremlin’s disinformation and propaganda tactics to allegedly cause chaos in different countries of the world.

In another press conference, the head of the State Department in matters of disinformation, Lea Gabrielle, considered that the Russian Government is “directly responsible” for the misleading information that is distributed through Twitter and internet portals, such as Strategic Culture Foundation and Geopolitica.ru.

However, Gabrielle did not comment on alleged attempts by other countries to interfere in the November 3 elections, in which Trump is running for reelection and will face the virtual Democratic candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden.

On numerous occasions, Trump has mocked intelligence reports of Russian interference in the 2016 election, something Moscow has consistently denied.
