The US 7th Fleet, which operates in the western Pacific, said investigations had concluded that the USS Connecticut struck a geological formation and not another ship on October 2, 2021.

“The investigation determined the USS Connecticut landed on an uncharted seamount while operating in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region,” a 7th Fleet spokesman said in a statement. email, which was reported by AFP, Tuesday (2/11/2021).
“The conclusions of the investigation have been submitted to Deputy Admiral Karl Thomas, commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet, to determine whether further action, including accountability, is appropriate,” the statement continued.

USNI News, published by the U.S. Naval Institute, an agency think-tank which is close to the US Navy, reported that there were moderate and minor injuries in the crash.
The accident also damaged the submarine’s ballast tanks and forced it to sail on the surface for a week back to Guam for repairs.
according to USNI News, the ship’s nuclear plant was not damaged.
