TAIPEI, Nov. 23 (Reuters) – A US Navy war building crossed Taiwan Strait again on Tuesday, a mission described as routine by the US military but even once again angering China, which accuses the United States of seeking to fuel tensions in the region.
Washington says it respects international law and displays its “commitment” to a “free and open” Indo-Pacific region.
No immediate comment was made by Beijing.
The Chinese military last month blamed the United States and Canada for both sending a war building across Taiwan Strait, denouncing actions that it said threaten peace and stability in the region.
Beijing, which considers Taiwan as a reigned province, has been increasing its airspace missions on the Democratic Island for about a year, provoking its ire.
Taiwan has no formal diplomatic link with the United States, but the United States is its main international support and provides it with arms.
In Pkin’s eyes, the Taiwan question is the most sensitive and the most important in his relations with Washington. (Report Ben Blanchard; French version Jean Terzian)
