US Minister resigns after corona aircraft carrier affair | Abroad

The aircraft carrier made the news as crew members on board were diagnosed with coronavirus. Because the commander, Brett Crozier, did not immediately receive help, he wrote a letter to the defense leadership in which he criticized the approach of the corona on his ship.

Crozier was removed from office and transferred for leaking the letter. Democrats in the United States House of Representatives then called for the resignation of Minister Modly, whom Crozier called “naive and stupid.” The minister previously apologized to Crozier but chose to leave on Tuesday.

On the USS Theodore Roosevelt, one of the largest warships in the world, 230 infections have been detected. More than 70 percent of the approximately 5000 persons on board have been tested. The aircraft carrier is located in the port of the island of Guam.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper accepted Modly’s resignation and immediately nominated Jim McPherson as his successor. It was approved by President Donald Trump.
