One of the five attacks involved an unmanned surface vessel or USV. The other three attacks involved anti-ship cruise missiles.

“CENTCOM identified anti-ship cruise missiles, unmanned underwater vessels, and unmanned surface vessels in Houthi-controlled Yemeni territory and concluded that these missiles pose a threat to US Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region,” the military said US.

The Houthi group, which controls most of Yemen, began their offensive in the Red Sea in November 2023. The Houthis said they would attack ships linked to Israel to support Palestinians in Gaza.

US and British troops responded with attacks on the Houthi group. The attacks in the Red Sea have increased insurance premiums for shipping companies, forcing many companies to avoid the Red Sea, a vital route that normally carries about 12 percent of global maritime trade.
