Ain al-Assad air base and an airfield near Erbil in Iraq, on which US troops are stationed, were attacked. According to the TV channel Al mayadeen citing a senior Pentagon official, at least six missiles were fired. There are no victims. The rocket attack began at 1:30 local time (the same as Moscow time). Tv channel Sky news arabia reports nine missiles fired.
Pentagon confirmedthat Iran attacked the military facilities of the US coalition forces in Iraq. According to Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman, more than a dozen missiles were fired at two military sites in Assad and Erbil.
“We are aware of reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The President was informed that he carefully monitors the situation and consults with his national security team, ” Twitter spokesman for US President Stephanie Grisham.
Iranian TV Channel Press tv reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attack. Representatives of the IRGC warned the US “of more crushing responses in the event of any attack.”
“During a successful operation called“ Martyr Suleymani, ”the brave warriors of the IRGC Air Force defeated an American terrorist and inflicted an air strike on the US base of Ain al-Assad,” the Iranian news agency quoted the IRG as saying ISNA.
Recall, on the night of January 3, as a result of a US air strike on the area near Baghdad airport, the commander of the Islamic forces of al-Quds of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Kassem Suleimani was killed. The Iraqi authorities claim that they were not informed of the plans for the attack properly. After that, the parliament of Iraq voted for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
