The US military command in charge of the Indo-Pacific region announced that the Chinese J-16 fighter jet performed the maneuver last week. As a result, the US RC-135 aircraft was forced to fly through the turbulence created by the Chinese J-16.
The statement said: “The United States will continue to fly, sail and operate safely and responsibly where international law allows.”

Liu Pengyu, a representative of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, commented that “the US has regularly deployed aircraft and ships near China for a long time, which poses a serious threat to the country’s national security.”
“Beijing calls on the US to stop such dangerous provocations and stop blaming China,” Liu commented in a written response.
The spokesman also added that “China will continue to take necessary actions to protect its sovereignty and security, and cooperate with countries in the region to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.” Beijing has declared almost the entire South China Sea as its territory. Beijing has also repeatedly stressed that sending US ships and aircraft to the South China Sea is not good for maintaining peace.
