US officials quoted by the WSJ, as reported by Sputnik on Thursday (22/4/2021), said the US leader was expected to describe the deportation, famine and massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Turks that began in 1915 as genocide.

“We join the proud American Armenian community and all those who support truth and justice in asking that you clearly and immediately acknowledge the Armenian Genocide in your April 24 statement,” said the letter signed by 107 US lawmakers.
The lawmakers noted that April 24 will mark the 106th anniversary of the first days of the Armenian Genocide, the systematic killing of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoglu has said that relations between Washington and Ankara will deteriorate if Biden’s government recognizes the genocide. Also read: Biden: Abuse Muslims Must Stop!
