NEW JERSEY — Nearly 600 arrests were made in a weeks-long, multi-agency operation focused on taking violent fugitives and individuals wanted for serious narcotics crimes off the streets in 12 locations across the United States, including Newark, New Jersey, said the US Marshals federal agency.
The operation aimed to combat violent and drug-related crimes in places with some of the highest overdose rates in the country, including the city of Newark.
From January 8 to February 2, authorities, including US Marshals, police officers and federal agents, carried out five- to 10-day warrants as part of Operation Washout – OD3, the US agency said. Marshals.
Among those arrested were 27 people wanted for homicide/capital murder, 80 people for weapons crimes, 202 for drug crimes, 104 for assault crimes, 78 were confirmed gang members and 25 for sexual crimes.
In total, the operation resulted in:
- 736 orders completed
- 596 arrests
- 78 gang members arrested
- 57 firearms seized
- 102.58 kilograms of narcotics seized
- $143,236 dollars in US currency seized
