Details: The US is concerned the war in Gaza will escalate into a regional conflict, two officials said.
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan was operating in Middle Eastern waters when it began making its way to the Suez Canal late last week, officials said.
Bataan is now in the Red Sea and will soon move into the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
This will bring the US Marine unit closer to Lebanon and Israel as the US has warned its citizens to leave Lebanon. One of the typical missions of a Marine Expeditionary Unit is to assist civilians in evacuation.
