“At a time when US-made bombs destroy Gaza, and kill women and children, we cannot simply allow the massive arms sales to take place even without a congressional debate,” Sanders said on Twitter.
“I believe that the United States must help lead the way to a peaceful and prosperous future for Israel and Palestine. “We need to look closely at whether these arms sales really helped do that, or if it only sparked conflict,” he said. Al Jazeera.
The resolution requires a simple majority to pass in both chambers of Congress before it reaches President Joe Biden’s desk, who can then veto the resolution.
It would then require a two-thirds majority in both chambers of parliament to pass, a threshold that cannot be overcome.
Support for Israel remains strong among US lawmakers, despite a group of progressives increasingly calling for a more critical approach to the US ally.
