Boeing’s proposed weapon system is called the Ground-Launched Diameter Bomb (GLSDB). According to the sources, the weapon is part of half a dozen plans to produce new weapons specifically for Ukraine and US allies in Eastern Europe.
The document, reviewed by Reuters and three others familiar with the plan, says the GLSDB can be delivered to Ukraine as early as early spring 2023.
The weapon is said to combine the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) with the M26 rocket engine, both of which are common in US arms supply.
Regardless, even though the United States has rejected Ukraine’s request for the ATACMS missile with a range of 297 kilometers, arming the GLSDB with a range of 150 kilometers will allow Ukrainian forces to strike military targets that were previously out of bounds. reach.
