US: Lite FM New York hands out tap

Hit station Lite FM has dealt a sensitive blow to the competition in New York City by considerably widening the gap with the number 2 and scoring the best listening figures – averse to all possible Christmas music – in more than a year. In Los Angeles, sister station KOST 103.5 is in first place. This is evident from Nielsen Audio’s September figures.

Although the United States is getting more and more ‘normal’ after a long period of corona restrictions, listening habits are still erratic and listening figures are shooting in all directions. For example, 106.7 Lite FM (WLTW) in New York City suddenly made a big jump to the top. The market share increased by 0.9% to 8.3%. That figure will probably increase in the coming measurements if the non-stop Christmas format is taken out of the stable again. Interesting detail: Lite saw the weekly reach drop by 4.5% to 3.15 million listeners. Incidentally, most radio stations in the Big Apple lost because the total weekly reach decreased by 1%.

Urban pop station WBLS 107.5 made up for the loss of the previous measurement. Market share increased by 0.2% to 6.5%, solidifying second place. (W)CBS FM 101.1 has moved up to third place. The market share of the classic hits channel rose slightly to 5.0%. The Spanish-language Mega 97.9 (WSKQ) saw the numbers fall for the third measurement in a row and is now fourth with 4.7%. Rival Amor 93.1 (WPAT) is fifth with 4.3% market share.

Z100 (WHTZ) has again disappeared from the top 5. The market share of this hit channel dropped by 0.7% to 3.7%, the lowest figures since February. Z100 drops from fifth to eighth place as a result. The weekly range also fell sharply. With regard to the target groups, we can conclude that Lite is at the top for the eleventh measurement in a row among 18-49 year-olds and for the thirteenth time in a row in the target group 25-54 years. The hip-hop channel Hot 97 (WQHT) is in first place among the 18-34 year olds.

In Los Angeles, we find COST 103.5 on the top rung with 5.5% market share, up 0.2%. Last month, the pop channel was also number 1, but then shared with K-Earth 101 (KRTH). The classic hit channel saw its market share remain stable at 5.3%, but it falls to number 2. With 2.37 million listeners, K-Earth has the largest weekly reach in Los Angeles, despite the loss of 1.7%. Total weekly radio coverage in Los Angeles fell 0.9%.

Urban pop station 94.7 The Wave (KTWV) remained stationary at 4.6%, but did rise a spot in the ranking. The top 5 is completed by pop channel 104.3 My Fm (KBIG) and the Spanish-language soft pop K-Love 107.5 (KLVE). Both score 4.5% market share. Among the target groups, K-Earth ranks 1 at 25-54 years, K-Love leads the way among 18-49 year-olds and rock channel Alt 98.7 (KYSR) is most popular among 18-34 year-olds. (Radiowereld.nl)
