A 38-year-old American woman has been jailed for three years for pretending she had uterine cancer. The woman had already been sentenced to one year in prison for embezzlement, but was able to postpone the sentence by sending letters to Justice about her so-called illness. When authorities discovered her ruse, her sentence was tripled.

She also managed to postpone the start of her prison sentence by arguing that she should be careful with her “fragile health” during the corona pandemic.

The authorities later determined that all the medical letters were from her own hand. They also concluded that the woman had never had cancer.

The woman had already been jailed for one year for embezzling $ 160,000 (converted 157,000 euros) from her employer, but that sentence has now been increased to three years. The FBI describes her letters as “an insult to all people fighting cancer”.

Thanks to her letters, the woman was able to enjoy her freedom for six months longer. According to her lawyer, the woman did this so that she would not be separated from her newborn son.
