Grant applications have decreased Unemployment in United States of America For the fifth consecutive week, indicating that demand for workers remains healthy despite the vague economic outlook.
Data from the Department of Labor on Thursday showed that initial jobless claims fell by 5,000 to 213,000 in the week ending September 10, compared to a Bloomberg poll’s median estimate of 227,000.
The four-week moving average, which eases week-to-week volatility, fell to 224,000, the lowest since June.
Continuing claims rose slightly to 1.4 million in the week ending September 3, still at an all-time low.
Employers are still trying to fill millions of vacancies and keep the workers they already have. However, the trend could reverse as the Federal Reserve follows a strong interest rate hike to control demand across the economy, including employment.
