US investigates leak of classified documents on Israel’s plans to attack Iran: report

The Associated Press said a fourth U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted the documents appeared to be legitimate.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson also appeared on CNN and confirmed the investigation.

“The leak is very concerning,” Johnson said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “Some serious allegations have been raised and an investigation is underway,” he said. “You will be briefed on this within two hours.” “There is a classified level briefing and there is another briefing. But we are following it closely.”

The investigation is also looking into how the documents were obtained, including whether they were leaked intentionally by members of the U.S. intelligence community or by other means, such as hacking, and whether other intelligence information was compromised, one of the officials said. The Associated Press added that officials were working to determine who had access to the documents before they were published.

The Pentagon said in a statement to The Associated Press that it was aware of reports of the document but did not elaborate further. The Associated Press said the Israeli military did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
