Iran and Russia hold the personal data of registered voters and are trying to influence the presidential election, US intelligence chief John Ratcliffe said Thursday.
According to Ratcliffe, fake emails have already been sent by Iran with the aim of “intimidating voters, stirring up social unrest and damaging President Donald Trump’s reputation.”
Russia would also have received voter data, just like during the 2016 elections. Most of that voter registration is public, another part can be requested for a fee.
This would include emails sent to voters on behalf of the right-wing extremist organization Proud Boys. The mails reportedly threatened to ask voters to vote for Donald Trump in the presidential election in November.
According to Ratcliffe, the presidential elections of November 3 are not in danger.
“We will not tolerate foreign interference in our elections or any criminal activity that undermines the integrity of your votes or undermines confidence in the public nature of the election results,” FBI chief Christopher Wray assured the American population on Thursday. once.
